MY first art exhibition

I’m still buzzing, so it’s hard to believe that it’s now been 2 whole months since my very first art exhibition at the London Welsh’s Exhibition of Contemporary Welsh Art. What an experience!

It all started with me setting up on Friday afternoon with the other artists, followed by a cheeky little solo wine at a local pub to calm my nerves, and then some of my biggest supporters (friends, my sister and my husband) joined me for some food before the opening event started. Keith Brymer Jones from The Great Pottery Throw Down even stopped by to say hello.

Seeing my name in the exhibition brochure was so surreal, and it felt like such an achievement. Especially as someone who studied Art A-Level - I have dreamt about being a successful professional artist since I was a teenager.

The opening event was busy and my jewellery got lots of attention, which was so rewarding. My friend Amy (who has helped me at a few of my markets) did a great job at fielding questions and helping people to try on pieces of jewellery. I took my ring sizer with me too, so a few people got measured up for potential future ring purchases and/or commissions. The wine was flowing so everyone was extra chatty, and I got to practice my Welsh speaking, which was so good because it has been a while.

Following the opening night, the exhibition ran over two full days on Saturday and Sunday. We had lots of people come by - Some were fellow Welshies living in London, others were tourists walking by who saw the signs and came in, and I was lucky enough to have more friends pop by to say hello - Some even brought lovely snacks/treats to keep me going over the weekend, and a few bought jewellery too.

It was amazing to speak to so many people who attend London Welsh events regularly, especially those who visit the Exhibition every single year. Many of the regulars commented on how lovely it was to see a handmade jeweller for the first time this year, which was lovely feedback to receive. I think it added a nice contrast to the paintings, drawings and sculptures.

Between busy periods, it was so good to chat with the other artists about their work and what inspires them. A couple of artists even bought some jewellery from me. One of my favourite conversations was with Francine Davies (https://francinedavies.art/) about her amazing paintings of waves, and her love of jewellery. Francine ended up treating herself to my pebble stud earrings and matching pebble necklace, which seemed so appropriate given her love of the coast. It was hard to resist buying art from Francine and the other artists, so I walked away with plenty of greeting cards of their beautiful art instead. Maybe one day I’ll treat myself to one of their paintings/drawings. I’m still so very honoured to have been chosen to be a part of the exhibition alongside so many talented artists.

The photos below were sent me to after the exhibition from two lovely ladies wearing their new Katherine Wilsey Jewellery rings. I am so grateful to each and every person who stopped by to say hello, those who travelled to come and see me, those who brought me lovely treats, and every single person who bought jewellery from me. I am eternally grateful for the support.

I can’t wait to go back next year if the London Welsh will have me….
